How does the DOR determine this
amount? They factor in sales and new construction.
There were 11 property sales in the
past reporting period. The assessed value of these properties totaled
$4,496,900. The actual sales were $4,404,440 or a loss in value of only
$92,460 (-0.6%). The DOR is estimating an across the board loss of value
of less than 1%, however, that amount was offset by new construction and created
the growth of 0.13%.
There are 39 communities that make up
the total equalized value of Sauk County. The town is the 8th largest
community in the county making up 3.8% of the equalized value. It is the
3rd largest township based on equalized value, exceeded only by the towns of
Delton and La Valle. The town is the 3rd largest contributor to the Sauk
Prairie School District behind the Village of Prairie du Sac (5th largest in the
county at $342,070,800), and the Village of Sauk City (which is 6th largest in
Sauk County at $308,435,200). The Village of Merrimac is 26th in the
county ($70,581,000).
The DOR requires that the town
revaluates the town when our values falls more than 10% out of their
range. The town is currently within 2% of the target number as reported
above.
